The Radnor Hunt Club
The The Radnor Hunt Club
The Radnor Hunt Club one of the oldest recognized hunts in the United States. The original property was purchased in 1883; encroachment and growth of the membership led to the purchase of the Gallagher Farm on Boot Road. After building stables and kennels, the Hunt moved to its present location on Providence Road in 1931. For over 100 years, Radnor Hunt has been the focal point of an active sporting community, carrying not only its traditional activity of foxhunting, but also encouraging a great many other activities involving horses, horsemanship and good sportsmanship.
The Radnor Hunt Races - 2008
An event held on the Radnor Hunt grounds benefitting the Brandywine Conservancy
Join 20,000 steeplechasing fans and the Brandywine Conservancy, for the 78th Radnor Hunt Races on Saturday, May 17th. Post time is 1:30 racing for a total of $210,000 and the third leg of the Triple Crown of Steeplechasing.
The racing series consists of three feature races run just a few weeks apart. The series will bring out the best young horses in the sport and the third leg is sure to provide Radnor Hunt fans with quite a show. Five other races fill out the card and plenty of action is guaranteed.
A day at the races includes fun-loving people, creative picnics, and an appreciation for the green rolling Chester County countryside. (An easement with the Brandywine Conservancy protects the 100 acres surrounding the Radnor Hunt racecourse.) Come out and be a part of this spring tradition. Even the tailgating is exciting. Join the crowd in the Picnic Patrons' section and compete for prizes. This year's tailgating theme, "Outlaws, Villains and Scoundrels" is sure to bring out the best in costumes, decorations and dining.
It's "Racing for Open Space". The Radnor Hunt Races have contributed over $2,000,000 to the Brandywine Conservancy's environmental programs over the years. The most important factor in this continuing success is corporate partnership. And in 2008, an important partner, BNYMellon, will be back as Presenting Sponsor. This year will be the 24th anniversary of Mellon's association with the races.
